At the end of sixth period on wednesday, a ninth grade girl came up to me in the library. After we had talked for a while she told me she had dyslexia and was a kinesthetic learner. Soon after that she told me that lately she had been feeling kind of violent, and wanted to punch things, but not me. I was also told that this girl felt very sad and embarrassed about this. So I told her, god loves you, Jesus loves you, your family loves you, your friends love you, you're loved by many living things. They love you for who you are, so just accept yourself for who you are. My mom told me this buddhist prayer, May I love and accept myself just as I am. Then I told my friend, and if you ever feel sad, just come to me, I'm happy to help my wonderful friends. I also said, I didn't used to be afraid of epilepsy so I won't always be, this means you didn't always feel violent and you won't always feel that way. I did this because I'm happy to help my wonderful friends.
Did your friend tell you why she's been feeling violent? It's important that your friend have someone to talk with, you or maybe someone else, about these kind of thoughts.
ReplyDeleteIn order to have a healthy life we need caring friends & family, spiritual guidance, hope, & purpose. However, my guess is most of us don't have all this so we are "disabled" in some way.
Everyone needs good friends and she is lucky to have you in her life.
well, you passed it on. I hope your friend passes it on to and the good feeling just keep going, on and on. I am so happy you helped someone else. Doesn't that make you feel really good!!!
ReplyDeleteGosh, Bean, what a gift you gave her. And think about this: she came to you. I bet that means she had a positive image of you to begin with. You handled the situation with such grace.
ReplyDeleteWhat's a kinesthetic learner?
A kinesthetic learner is someone who learns by touching things.
ReplyDeleteThanks.
ReplyDeleteI think this might be your best post yet. Beautifully written. Simplicity and elegance combined.
